It's IRIS, not IRISH.

YEAH, you read that right. Many people think that my name came with an 'H'. Well that sucks, I hate it when that happens. Especially when they call me "IRISH" and boy does it truly annoy me. How many times should I remind everyone of that matter? Again, my name is just a FOUR LETTER WORD. Just a simple reminder for everyone. :)

The Story

Halo! I'm Iris. :) A 17-year-old girl (who usually thinks she's a boy) hailing from Cavite, Philippines. I'm a college freshie at UST taking up Bachelor of Science in Interior Design under the CFAD Department.

L'Artiste

My passion for the arts could be traced way back when I was in Grade 2 when I love to draw and doodle those Pokémon critters on TV. :) And then in Grade 3, I became fond of sketching nature scenes, landscapes and Son Goku's portrait (wth?) on my trusty notebook. I continued my artsy life from Grade 4 to Grade 6 - learning tips and reading books like Walter Foster's (which were actually my mom's possessions) and took it further when I bought my first set of drawing pad, colored pencils, oil pastels and brushes. Won some contests, received awards and grabbed opportunities. And in my freshman years in highschool, I met Adobe Photoshop who became one of my best friends to date. :)

Le Web et Créateur Graphique

I began to form my love for aesthetics when I was in Grade 6, teaching myself with the basics of HTML and in first year high school, I made use of Macromedia Dreamweaver to make my own web site. Back then, I was susceptible to only "simple table" layouts - PURE table + PURE colors; no Photoshopped graphics. Far from this website I have made! I became fond of tinkering stuffs like customizing Sims 1 objects (transmogrification) and making paper doll games (dress me up) which was inspired by Athemes. I had my first web site hosted wih Yahoo! Geocities and it was called under the name of ThePerpetualiteCommunity.tk using DotTK domain and Bravehost's web services. Then, after 2 years I lost my passion due to my hectic schedule in school and ended up making Friendster layouts instead. And this summer, my passion has been rekindled - thanks to Kaila of Eerie-Silence.net. I owe her a big thank you! :)

L'Auteur et le Bibliophile

I am also a writer, a journalist and a poet. I have a passion for the literature and the like. I love writing stories and poems, composing songs, writing articles and stuff. I have been through everything from being only a staffer/contributor in our school paper, to managing editor and finally becoming the associate editor. I want to learn different languages. So far, I can only speak Filipino, English, basic Japanese (part of our HS curriculum) and a bit of French. It would be my happiest day if I learn to speak French fluently! :D I am also a self-confessed bookworm. I love reading a lot of books that quench my thirst for knowledge. My fave books of all time is Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven, both by Mitch Albom. But right now, I'm suffering from Writer's Block so I haven't written for a while (2 years to be specific).

L'Amant de Nature

I am fond of nature, landscapes, prairies, meadows, the sky at day and the sky during the night. I love the stars and the moon. I always thought the moon was the most beautiful entity I've ever seen, with the stars scattered among the sky like broken pieces of diamonds. And I have this theory that the sun is actually God enlightening us with sunshine everyday. <-- Forgive me, I'm such a deep thinker, you know. xD Someday, I want to be a nature advocate. Btw, I don't often throw trashes anywhere like most people do. Usually, I keep it inside my bag and when I find a trash bin, disposal is at its best. :D

Le Musicien

It's in my blood to have a thing for music. I can't last a day without hearing a single song. I always bring my mp3 with me whenever I travel or go on trips - it has become a habit. I play the piano and my favorite piece is the intro to Billy Joel's Vienna. I am a fan of many artists. Among them is my ultimate fave band Goo Goo Dolls and Coldplay. Others that made to my list are Switchfoot, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, Colbie Caillat, Daughtry, Dashboard Confessional, Green Day, Incubus, Boys Like Girls, Yellowcard, David Cook and the classical The Beatles. :] I am a frustrated guitarist, but now I have learned how to play the guitar (basics only). The first song I have played using it is She Could Be You by Shawn Hlookoff, OST of the TV series Kyle XY. I also compose my own songs, the first song I have composed (which is fortunately not-so cheesy) is entitled Over (this was the revised title of Au Revoir). :D

About the Site

Ever since I was in my 6th Grade - HS Freshie timeline, I dreamed of having my own website. Now, after a solid period of 4 years, I have finally fulfilled my dream.

This site is a testimony to my endless hours in front of the PC, several days and nights without sleep - with only my insomnia as my sidekick, sessions of learning HTML, CSS and Javascript and realizing it wasn't that hard, my eagerness to learn PHP with accompanying headaches, times that I skipped meals, times that I didn't eat at all and times that I sneaked to the ref just to scour for a quick fix of midnight snack. :) But it was all worth it for I have done my part and so you are viewing my fulfilled dream right now.

Le Nom

Way back in September 2007 I had come up with a cute codename: Happysponge. I chose it because I admire Spongebob Squarepant's jolly personality (Sorry Patrick, you weren't in the picture yet ;P). So then I claimed it as my own, and in March 2008 while I was doing some premade profile layouts for Friendster I needed a name that spelled my art and persona. I remembered the codename I made up in September, and instead of using happysponge I came up with another name: HappyChocoBox. The story behind this is because I love the word "happy" since I'm the happy type of person, and "choco" because I love chocolates (yeaa, I'm a chocoholic, so what?) and then I added the "box" to make it sound complete. Hence, HCB was born. :)
